Mental Health Supports
What is BSD2 Cares?
The BSD2 CARES Program offers students and families the ability to access treatment without long waitlists or financial barriers. With 8 initial visits provided free of charge, and the possibility to continue care based on funding and clinical need, this initiative ensures that everyone has a fair chance at receiving the support they deserve. Many families seek help for challenges such as depression, anxiety, and parenting strategies, and the CARES Program is designed to meet these needs with tailored, evidence-based solutions.
District 2 staff may also refer students to receive support. The school will then contact parents or guardians to initiate the process.
If you feel that your student or a family member could benefit from therapeutic or psychiatric support, take the first step:

School-Wide Support Systems
Positive Behavior Interventions & Supports (PBIS)
Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) is a proactive approach to promoting positive behavior across our schools. PBIS is an evidence-based, tiered framework that integrates data, systems, and practices to maximize student success. PBIS recognizes that students can only meet behavior expectations when they clearly understand what the expectations are, and know how to reach them, so behavior data is regularly analyzed by PBIS team regularly in order to identify challenging behaviors and to create goals and lesson plans for improvement.
Social Works & Conselors
The District provides counseling/social work support for any student, if needed. These professionals assist students with interventions related to academic, social, and/or personal issues.
SEL staff work together with teachers, administrators, and parents/guardians to ensure students are able to set goals, problem-solve, and resolve conflicts to achieve academic and personal success.
Written permission from the parent/guardian is required for any ongoing counseling/social work services. Ongoing is defined as more than 8 contacts. That consent does not entitle the parent/guardian to know the contents of all that is discussed. SEL staff will inform parents/guardians of all issues that pose a health and/or safety risk.
Threat Assessment:
We take a proactive approach to identifying and addressing potential threats. Our trained, multidisciplinary teams recognize warning signs, assess concerns, and provide early intervention. When a threat is identified, teams investigate by gathering information, reviewing evidence, and interviewing those involved to ensure a safe environment.
Suicide Prevention:
All students in grades 7–12 are taught to recognize warning signs of suicide and how to seek help. Staff are trained in prevention and use the Signs of Suicide protocol to support at-risk students. If you are concerned about a student, contact your school’s principal or SEL staff. After hours, use the Safe2Help Illinois 24/7 Helpline. In emergencies, call 911.
Safety Plan:
When needed, schools work with families to create safety plans that support both the student and school environment. These plans may include supervision, check-ins, or schedule adjustments. Contact your principal or student services coordinator for more information.
Hospital Re-entry:
When students experience mental health emergencies, schools collaborate with families and healthcare providers to support treatment and a smooth return to school. We work to keep students connected and prepared to resume learning when ready. Contact your principal or student services coordinator to learn more.
Bullying:
Bullying is repeated, intentional aggressive behavior involving a power imbalance. If your child is experiencing bullying, report it to school administrators. The school will investigate and notify families of all students involved, along with the outcome and next steps.
